Fall Decorating with Deflecto

FALL is just around the corner!  Deflecto has some great products to help you with your holiday decorating.  Since it is difficult to see clear acrylic, I will tell you where to look in the photo shown here.  The bag is sitting on top of a deflecto Riser.  The risers come with 3 varied sizes in a package.  These are perfect for showcasing table decorations and candles when decorating the table.  The paper turkey is attached to the adhesive end of a deflecto Sign Dangler.  I curled it for more effect and adhered the other end to the back of the small sign holder.  The angled sign holder is in the forefront with the Happy Thanksgiving card in it.  A dangler is attached to the sign holder and the top end has a pumpkin sticker attached for decoration.

Here is the link to the Deflecto website.  Check out their products once you get through this blog.  Most are available on Amazon and there are lots more new and exciting products to come!  http://www.deflecto.com/craft/
I have added more photos for you to get an overview. There is a diagram at the bottom of the page that will show you how I made the paper turkey that is on the sign dangler.  I die cut most of the pieces on my electronic die-cut machine.  You might also use some punches.  A scalloped circle punch will also work to create the tail feathers.  I used varied sizes of maple leaves for the tail feathers on the turkey shown here.

I hope you have been inspired to start decorating for Thanksgiving if you haven't already.  The deflecto mini signs make wonderful place card holders.  There are so many options!

Handmade Gifts ( I am thinkin' Christmas!)

Handmade gifts are gifts straight from the heart!  I treasure the gifts of love that I have rec'd over the years.  I also love designing and making my own gifts.  Much of the excitement I feel for the holidays comes from anticipating making gifts and ornaments for friends and to share some creativity as well.

I was perusing through pictures and came upon some projects that I created last year for the holidays; Christmas in particular.  I thought I would share, as I am feeling inspired to get started on some new projects for this year.

This guy was made from some paintbrush handles that my friend gave me.  They almost got used for fire kindling!  Noooo!

Selfie Santa pictured above has a pocket on his back for a gift card.  I love designing tag/ornaments every year.  These make perfect little add-on gifts.

I have loved making little dolls with wooden clothespins and ball knob heads for years.  Last years little kewpie doll was perfect on the tree.

My little tree at Aunt Bee's vendor store was filled with original handmade ornaments and other goodies.  The store closed this Summer.  These pictures provide good memories from last Christmas.
I am thinking about new projects to make this year.  I love the whole creative process!

One of my favorite little gifts to give and sell are my little bag clips.  I make them for every season and with just about every character design that I can think up.  They are perfect for small gift giving and I will be selling them on my Etsy shop in the near future.

Below are a couple more little ornaments from years gone by.  It is always fun to find photos from the past.  They inspire me to create for the future!

Well, this has been my little trip down memory lane.  I hope you are inspired to get creative for the holidays.  No matter what the gift; a gift from the heart is the best!  If you don't like to make the gifts; we have online shopping opportunities for handmade gifts on sites like Etsy.  My shop needs some attention and I plan on adding some fun things for the holidays.  If you would like to check it out; go to https://www.etsy.com/shop/stuffandthingsandco?ref=hdr_shop_menu

Make sure to take some time to enjoy the small blessings along the way and

Cheers!

Etch some French themed party favors! Place cards included!

How do you make a party gift extra special without spending a lot of money?  You use etchall etching creme!  I will tell you how on this pictorial tutorial.
Check out the etchall website for a complete product list and lots of tips! http://etchall.com/

I love all things French!  Because Christmas is just around the corner, I wanted to make some special party favors that could also be used every day.  Follow along and I will show you how I made them.

You will need:

etchall etching creme
etchmask transfer and stencil
Painter's tape
6 pak of bottles with lids
Smoothfoam: 1-1/2" w x 12" long rod, 1; 1-1/2" wide half balls, 6
Cardstock:  black, red, black and white stripe, white
Acrylic Paint:  Black and Red
Pine stem
Paintbrush
wooden skewers
Glue gun

1.  Cut out stencil.

 2.  Apply etchmask to stencil.

 3.  Follow manufacturer's instructions and apply the stencil to the clean glass surface.

4.  Liberally apply the etchmask to the stencil.  Make sure to protect the glass around the stencil with the painter's tape.  The etchall can be used over and over.  Well loved etchall starts to take on a dark brown hue.  This doesn't hurt the product.  You can use it until it is gone.

5.  Set the timer for 15 minutes.  When the time is up; put the etchall creme back into the container and wash the excess creme off of the glass.  Remove the stencil and tape and wash thoroughly.  Dry.  This is when the "magic" happens.  The dry design will become very clear.

I etched 3 bottles with fleurdelis and 3 with the Eiffel Tower.  It is difficult to show the etch in a photograph; but they are very pretty!

To finish this project you will have to complete a few more steps.

1.  Adhere the flat side of one half ball to one side of a disk cut from the Smoothfoam rod. Repeat for the remaining 5.  Paint 3 half balls black, the remaining 3 red.  Use a wooden skewer for a handle.  Allow to dry.  Adhere the flat side of one to the center of a cardstock circle.  Repeat for each hat, matching the cardstock to the painted half ball.

2.  Embellish each "hat" with a 1/4 wide strip of striped cardstock. Spiral one end of pine stem and make a 1' circle.  Cut excess and adhere the circle to the side of one hat.  Glue a 1/2" paper flower to the pine circle.  Glue rhinestone trim to the base of the hat crown.  Repeat for the remaining hats.

3. More Embellishments:  I used black tulle and 1" sheer ribbon to complete the decorations on the jars.  I used items that would lend a French theme.  This is where you can use your imagination and make them look however you want for the occasion.  I think even a Steampunk theme would be cute with the embellishments and papers that are available.

4.  For the box:  I cut pieces of striped cardstock to fit each side and adhered the paper to the box.  A strip of red cardstock and some extra die-cuts completed the project.

5.  I made place cards to do double duty on the favors.  Each guest will have a lovely favor with her name on the place card.  The place cards were cut out on my die-cut machine.

Here are some more photos to help capture the details of this project.

Hope you got some inspiration on the blog today.  This project will take most of a day so I would recommend getting a head start if you intend to have a party!  Oh, I almost forgot!  I didn't go to the store today.  But, I would fill them with some special goodies.  French mints would be nice!  Loose candy would be easier to pour out of the bottle.  Bath products would be great too!  Again, let your imagination be your guide!

Take time to enjoy the small blessings along the way, and

Spooky "Owl" O'Ween Container to light up your party!

This owl will light up any Fall celebration!  His eyes are made with tea lites and Smoothfoam  mini wreaths.  He is a little spooky and a lot of cute, so let me tell you how to make one!
You will need:

Smoothfoam:   Block:  one 8" x 4";Mini Christmas Wreaths:  two 2-7/16" x 12" wide, x 2-7/16" high;
1/2 Ball:  3"
Tea Lights:  2
Recycled peanut can from Costco
12" cardstock:  2 pieces orange
JOY Embroidered Letters:  Collegiate Black, 3" high; B O O
Deco-Art Americana Paint:  Soft Black; Traditional Burnt Sienna
*Optional:  Deco-Art Americana Gloss Enamel:  Black (for painting the rim on the can)
Paintbrush:  1" flat
Jute String:  3 ply
Adhesives:  Aleene's Tack-It over & over (for the eyes); Tombow XTREME permanent adhesive
Hot wire foam cutting tool
Toothpicks and wooden skewers (for handles and connectors)
Scissors
Water Bucket
Paper Plates and Paper Towels

Instructions:
Gather your supplies.
Cut a piece out along the top of the Smoothfoam block to shape the top of the owl's head. Place the block in the can and push up against the rim of the can.  There will be a little notch on each side.

Wings:  Cut the half ball in two.  Cut 1" off of one end of one "wing".  Repeat for the other wing.

Eyes:  Make sure that your tealights fit in the Smoothfoam Wreaths as shown; then remove and set aside.

Use a wooden skewer for a handle. Paint the block (owl body) Sienna.  Paint the wings Soft Black.  Paint the Smoothfoam wreaths (eyes) Soft Black.  Allow to dry thoroughly.

Tea Lights:  Paint the sides Sienna.  Paint around the edges of the top with Soft Black.  Leave the top area clear.  Apply adhesive to the inside edge of one Smoothfoam wreath.  Insert the tealite and secure with the adhesive.  Repeat for the other "eye".

*Important Step:  Apply the Tack-It Over and Over glue to the back of each wreath.  Do not get it on the tealight.  Allow it to dry thoroughly before touching again.  You will need to remove the "eyes" to turn them on and off.

Measure and cut the orange cardstock to fit around the can.  Adhere with the Permanent Adhesive.  Wrap and adhere the jute string around the top of the can as shown.

Remove the paper backing from the Embroidered letters.  Place and adhere to the front of the can.  These can be ironed on; but it is not necessary when applying to paper.

Assemble:  Place the owl body in the can and push to the inside edges of the can.  Poke a toothpick halfway into the flat end of one "wing".  Push the opposite end of the toothpick into the owl body as shown.  Repeat for the other wing.  Adhere to secure.  Stick the eyes to the head! They should adhere enough to keep from falling off; but come off without pulling chunks of foam from the owl. This will allow for turning the tea lights on and off.

Beak:  Cut a triangle from a scrap of orange cardstock and adhere between the bottom edges of the
eyes as shown.

Now dress up your owl decor with pumpkins and other Fall decorations. The owl is a companion piece for another peanut can rescue project that I made to celebrate the season.  (Yes, we eat a lot of peanuts around here!)  Lol.  I will include a picture at the bottom of this post.  Crafty Me has instructions on the Smoothfoam Blog this month.

Hope you are having a Fall filled with fun, laughter and blessings!  Make sure to take time to enjoy the small blessings along the way and

My focus was on using the Decorative Tapes and a lot of the embellishments.  The products shown below were some of my choices for the projects I am showing on the blog today.

There are a variety of wooden cut-outs and shapes you can find at your local craft store.  Choose shapes and sizes that will work for your project.  The tape can be applied to larger surfaces such as a wooden frame.  You can make up a theme and decorate everything to match, i.e Birthdays, Weddings, Holidays, etc.

You will need:

Wooden shapes (up to 4" to 5" high)
Jute string
Sharp (small) scissors
Drill (For drilling holes in the wood)
Adhesives * optional

The tags shown in the photos are tied together into sets.  Each one has its own hanger.

For the Tags:

Instructions:

1.  Drill a hole in the wood, approximately 1/4".

2.  Cover the front and back of the wood with the Decorative Tape, overlapping the edges and smoothing out any wrinkles.  Make sure that the tape is smooth on both sides.  Rub down with your fingers, making sure there is a good bond to the wood.

3.  Trim all of the edges using the scissors.

4.  Hanger:  Fold a 12" piece of jute string in half.  Push the folded end through the drilled hole in the wood, making a loop.  Pull the tails through the loop and tighten.  Tie a knot in the end of the tails.

5. Embellish the tag with the Little B embellishments of your choice!

Now to decorate a frame or two!  There is one frame shown in the collage above.  Both frames are decorated with Tape and Embellishments.

I went looking for a birthday photo and all I could find was one of myself!  It is OK though, because it was a milestone birthday and besides, there were cupcakes!

I decorated the clear, 5" x 7" acrylic frame with two kinds of metallic Decorative Tape and a package of birthday embellishments shown below.

This is a very quick and easy way to decorate a frame.  Works for wedding signage, birthday signage, table markers, etc.  The sky is the limit!

That is all from me today.  Hope you got a little bit inspired and enjoy  seeing the rest of the projects.

Take time to enjoy the small blessings along the way and

Etch a Halloween Treat Jar with etchall!

Fall is here!  First up and just around the corner is Halloween and a good excuse to make fun decorations and give treats!  I found a large jar with a wooden stopper lid at my local Goodwill.  Etchall is the perfect match-up to make my jar into a cool project worthy of giving as a great gift or decorating the house with.  It will hold lots of goodies!

You will need a few things to start:

*etchall:  dip 'n etch liquid, a 32 ounce container; Detail Pick Tool; etchmask Stencil Combo Pack
*Die-cut Machine with Halloween dies or disk
*Large plastic jug with top cut off for dipping your project in.  (*Make sure the jar will fit before starting. Mine was almost too tall!  Lesson learned!)
*3 ply jute string
*natural raffia
*Fall leaves, small sticks from branches
*Acrylic paints:  Orange, Black, White
*Paintbrushes
*scissors
*Adhesives

Instructions:

Wash and dry the glass jar before starting.

Positive Stencil:  Cut one design from the Etchmask at a time.  Lift out the shape; position and adhere it to the jar.  Gently rub out all air bubbles.  Repeat for all of the shapes you will be putting on the jar.

Etch:  Make sure to have a container that will fit the jar and not be too big around.  You will have to etch the entire piece at one time to get the right effect.  Place some weight in your jar.  I used glass marbles; but when those weren't heavy enough I resorted to a bottle of wine on top of that and it was finally weighted enough to stay put.  No; I didn't need to use the watermelon that you see in the picture.  Lol.  I had a different plan for it!

Carefully pour the etchall liquid into the plastic receptacle.  This could take the entire bottle.  You will be re-using it; so plan to pour it back into the etchall bottle when you are done.  Let the piece sit in the etchall for 15 to 20 minutes.

Remove the jar from the etchall; remove the stencil stickers and weights, then wash the jar thoroughly.

Now, you might want to pour a glass of that wine and continue with the rest of the project!

Lid:  Apply craft glue to the top and sides of the lid and wrap the jute string around the entire lid until it is covered. I started with a tiny circle in the middle of the top of the lid and worked out to the edges, then the sides.

Raffia:  Pull out about 6 strands of raffia.  Tie a knot in the middle.  Wrap around the neck of the jar and end with a shoestring bow.  Shred the loops and tails of the raffia for a fuller look.  Adhere a leaf to the bow. Trim excess.

Pumpkins:  Use a wooden chopstick or similar object to emboss the recessed lines in the foam ball.
Use the chopstick as a handle and paint the ball Orange.  Paint Black facial features and highlight with the White paint.  Finish with a little piece of branch stuck in the top for the stem.  Glue a leaf to the side of the stem.  Repeat for each Smoothfoam pumpkin.

Below you will see a ghost variation of the pumpkin.  Also made out of a Smoothfoam Ball; white and black paint.

I hope you enjoy our Fall weather and got a little inspiration here today.  For more information about using etchall and all of their great products; go to http://etchall.com/ and follow the links!
